Great Taste Awards 2022 – Packington wins not one, not two, but five Awards
Packington Free Range wins 5 Great Taste Awards 2022 – the food and drink industry’s most coveted awards.
What Are The Great Taste Awards?
The Great Taste Award is the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme. It puts food or drink to the test with a panel of over 500 experts to gain quick, honest, straightforward and impartial feedback from chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers. Great Taste stars are highly respected seals of approval.
The judges look for truly great taste, regardless of branding or packaging. They take into account texture, appearance and of course the quality of the ingredients; they will note a good aroma, a decent bite, or a particularly smooth or crunchy texture. But above all else the question remains – does the product taste truly great?
3-stars: Exquisite:
Extraordinarily tasty food and drink – around 2% of products are awarded 3-stars each year. Don’t leave the shop without buying it!
2-stars: Outstanding:
Above and beyond delicious – less than 10% of entries will achieve this rating.
1-star: Simply Delicious:
A food that delivers fantastic flavour – approximately 25% of entries will achieve this rating each year.
Packington’s Winning Products
We’re thrilled that we won GT Awards across all our products – with our Free Range Cockerel being awarded a fantastic 2-star award, here’s what the judges had to say:
“An impressive roast bird with beautifully golden skin. The flesh of both the breast and leg meat is succulent and full of flavour, with a length on the palate that tells of a cockerel life well lived. The skin was also delicious – crisp and melting on the tongue.”
“A handsome, golden bird – golden fleshed too, suggesting corn-feeding. The skin carried a pleasing layer of fat and ample flavour. The firm white meat was perhaps a touch acidic, but the brown meat deep, mineral-rich and rounded in flavour. All told, a sound and rewarding bird, that could easily form the centre of a festive feast.”
As suggested by one of the judges above, our Cockerels really are the perfect centre piece for your festive table and are always popular at Christmas – our online orders usually open in September, be sure to order early so you don’t miss out.

We received so many fabulous judge comments across our products like this Pork Loin Judge Quote:
“This boned loin of pork was incredible to look at, with its salty, golden crackling atop juicy white and plump pork that was super smooth to carve. The fat was really tasty and the pork meat was of very high quality, wonderfully moist. The crackling was crisp and delicious. We thought that the absence of bone could translate to an absence of flavour here, but pleasingly, this was not the case. A wonderful product.”
Overall, we’ve been so honoured to receive these awards, which is down to the sheer hard work, love, care and attention all our staff pay to our animals and lands – putting welfare above all else. So a huge thank you to them and to you, our customers for your continued support.
